«Our first website in the late 1990s gave information to our guests, and the call for action went via telephone and e-mail. For our small property it worked fine. Starting in 2000, tour operators started portal websites but the number of direct bookings remained. This changed in 2005, when we still did see high traffic on our own website, but guests switched to booking (commission-based) online tour operators. We figured out that this was because (i) our guests were becoming more 'internet confident' and (ii) our guests were looking for 'convenience' or instant availability and confirmation. We scanned the market for solutions and once we found Globekey, we knew we couldn’t find better.
Since adding Globekey to in early 2006, we do not lose direct bookings to online tour operators.
